ANCCE welcomed an institutional visit at the Purebred Spanish Horse Stud Book office and the Molecular Genetics Laboratory. Guests were provided with first-hand knowledge regarding the scope and activities generated by Purebred Spanish Horses, together with the characteristics and effort undertaken by both departments. A delegation with representatives from the Ministry of Defense visited the various facilities. These included Defense Representative in Andalusia Colonel Ignacio Rosales de Salamanca, Colonel Carlos Echevarria, Director of the Armed Forces Breeding Center in Jerez de la Frontera (Cadiz) Lieutenant Colonel Antonio Gomez Pascual and Rafael Olvera, the new managing Director of the REAAE (Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art).
This visit was led by ANCCE President Jose Juan Morales, PRE Stud Book Director Arancha Rodriguez and Assistant Director and Technical Director of the PRE Breeding Program Pedro J. Azor. The group visited the offices of the Official Purebred Spanish Horse Register (LG PRE ANCCE) where they were shown the various services provide and the identification process. Also, the group visited the Molecular Genetics Laboratory where they were shown blood and DNA samples. Likewise, they saw the specialized equipment on hand, as well as how the innovative GO EQUIGENOM project is unfolding. This project seeks to develop an economic, medium density chip to verify parentage, diagnose diseases, detect traits of economic importance, and the genomic selection in PRE Horses, among other aspects.
