The PRE Breeding Program Management Commission continues with its efforts to share genetic improvements and increase the progress of future generations of Purebred Spanish Horses. To improve both stud farm productivity and its completive edge while at the same time guaranteeing business feasibility, the PRE Stud Book web site has published has published the respective file for each horse on its web site. The file includes all of the genetic data for horses assessed to date, both for Dressage as well as Conformation Aptitude for Dressage.
Thus, breeders may select those breeding horses that are to their interests to obtain descendants with specific traits. In turn, this allows them to move forward thanks to genetic selection.
This year, 16,066 genetic assessments have been published for Dressage, of which 6,846 were stallions and 9,220 mares. For each horse listed, the genetic assessment for six (6) variables has been provided, in addition to their Global Genetic Index. With regards to Conformation Aptitudes for Dressage, 155,038 assessments have been published; this information corresponds to 58,509 stallions and 96,529 mares. The information provided for each horse includes the genetic assessment for thirty-seven (37) different traits has been provided, in addition to their Global Genetic Index.
Anyone interested in accessing this information may do so. You may consult the traits that these horses transmit to their offspring, including all of the characteristics assessed. Nevertheless, it is necessary to know the genetic values for the selected horses in advance, as each parent transmits 50% of his/her genetic information to the next generation.
Those horses meeting the requirements established by the PRE Breeding Program Commission may seek any one of the genetic categories listed in the Breeding Program. The files for these horses will be published in the 2020 Breeding Catalog, as well as being incorporated into the various LG PRE ANCCE Stud Book Registers.
By publishing all available genetic values for all of the horses listed in the Breeding Stock Catalog, an extremely useful tool has been created and made available to breeders. This tool contributes to selection of breeding stock and the genetic improvement of their stud farms, and there for the PRE breed in general.
