Global Conformation Genetic Index
Information
The Global Genetic Index (GGI) indicates a horse’s ability to genetically transmit specific favorable traits to its descendants. In this particular case, it refers to conformation traits that adapt the horse for Dressage.
This value is based on the horse’s own phenotypic assessment (lineal conformation score) as with any other relative that has previously participated in the various performance controls. Environmental information is also necessary, as is genealogic or pedigree data.
Genetic values for the conformation variables taken into consideration are used to obtain the GGI. This information is expressed on a scale where the average is 100 (average for the herd population analyzed), thus a horse with a GGI that is greater than 100 is, as a whole, recommendable for these variables.
Repeatability is also included in the GGI, as this indicates the precision for estimation.
The main advantage in knowing the genetic quality of a given horse is to select the best breeding stock, to obtain foals with given conformation traits that are functionally outstanding in a certain discipline, such as Dressage.
There may be a greater or lesser degree of discrepancy between a horse’s conformation (what the breeder perceives when observing a horse) and what is expected of that horse (the ability of a horse to transmit certain traits to its descendants).

Genetic values for Dressage
Information
The genetic values for individual traits linked to aptitudes for Dressage (walk, trot, canter, future expectations, submission and performance by reprise ) indicate the capacity that a horse has to transmit the variables analyzed to his/her progeny.
The genetic value provides information about the global capacity of the horse’s genes to perform a certain aptitude for sports, and it determines its ability to transmit that aptitude to the next generation in this type of test.
